ADB mouse compatibility on IIgs?

Hi! I'd like to be able to use a third-party mouse with my IIgs. The
reason I'd like to do this is because I have an ADB/audio switchbox,
and I share the same speakers and keyboard and mouse between my Mac and
my IIgs. The Apple Desktop Bus Mouse and Apple Desktop Bus Mouse II
work fine with the IIgs, but I'd like to get a mouse with more features
for my Mac (and hence my GS), and need one that would be compatible
with both.

I've tried a MacAlly 2-button ADB mouse, and also about 4 PS/2 mice
using a PS/2-to-ADB adapter. With every mouse I've tried, the GS
updates the mouse location very slowly in GS/OS and the faster the
mouse is moved, the slower the pointer moves. In addition, if I move
the mouse at all while GS/OS is not running, the GS crawls -- screen
drawing, executing, keyboard input, etc., until I unplug the mouse.

So, does the GS require a special kind of ADB mouse? Are the
third-party mice I'm using perhaps not 100% compliant with Apple's
timing spec for ADB, or sampling at a different resolution? (I know
the MacAlly 2-button ADB mouse uses lower resolution.) Does the GS
hardware/firmware require a specific resolution for the mouse?

Thanks!
