Same here.. In my own ponderings, I would think that someone,
somewhere, somehow, would re-create the Apple //. Much like the Apple
I project, an Apple IIe machine could be reproduced - perhaps for a
reasonable amount. The trick will be using the Apple ROM images. But
I think Apple, Inc. would let that happen if the creator(s) paid
royalties. It's not as though it would be competing with their Mac
line in any way... so, why not?

I agree! I've been thinking of the concept of making an Apple //e software-compatible machine, which I referred to as "HACC" (Hardware Apple Clone Computer), it would be a small box, perhaps housing an internal 3.5" drive (so EMU]['s Megadisk would be of some use ^__^; !) and having connectors on the back for a parallel printer, serial modem, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, 5.25" drive, and some sort of monitor (VGA?) - just dig up some Unidisks or a Duodisk and the rest is all PC hardware. As for the ROM, perhaps at least the monitor could be cloned a la the Laser, and the BASIC from Simsystem, which is 10K located at $D000 and is prolly identical to the Laser 128's BASIC, could be used. This could perhaps eliminate the concern about Apple code.

Okay, I've been rambling, but go figure. I <3 the Apple ][ and I don't ever want it to die ;__;
