Apparently the rule for Epson's is: print something at least once
a week, whether you need it or not.
The worst thing for any inkjet is to sit idle, with some inks
and jets being easier to clog than others.
I've been using Epson inkjets for about 7 years. My first one for
almost 6 years. At that point I changed to a computer without a
serial or parallel port. Needing a printer urgently I grabbed a
Lexmark. I used the Lexmark for about 8 months when it died.
Shortly before it died I was able to swap my old Epson for a
similar one with an ethernet port. Since eternet looks likely to
be here for quite a while I expect to be using the Epson for quite
a while. One of the reasons I like Epsons is that darn near every
Apple II program that prints will print to an Epson printer.
Clogged jets? Well, I try to print something every month, usually I
do that anyways. I did have clogged jets a few years back. As it
happened I was almost out of ink at that point and ran out trying
to clean the head. I thought that since the ink is water based then
straight water would likely be better at cleaning the jets than the
ink. So I drilled the cartridge, filled it with water and went through
the cleaning cycle until the jets were clean.
