: Hi everyone. I've sent Bill $3. I checked him out before
: sending it and also came across info on Vince Briel. You
: guys are amazing! Keep up the good work.
:
: I have another question. I think there may have been an
: electrical connection made between 2 of the pins on the old
: 6502 I'm replacing, because of corrosion. What are the odds
: that some of my ROM chips are fried because of it? The last
: time I turned the ][ on the screen filled completely with
: some kind symbol (@ marks?). I'm not going to turn it on
: again until I replace the 6502. When I first turned it on
: there was what I think was a machine language prompt (*).
: There was a language card installed. I couldn't get the
: keyboard to type anything. I turned it off and turned it on
: again and had the same Apple ][ at the top, the * prompt,
: and some garbage on the screen. The third time I booted I
: got the screen filled with those marks.
Sounds like it booted right the first two times
and the extra heat build-up burned off the pins
of the CPU. Then the next boot wasn't utilizing
all the signals. You should be fine once you get
the new (used) chip. 8o)
: Of the three 6502 pins that were bad, two were so corroded
: that they were just not there anymore. It looked like rust.
: The socket looks like it just needs some cleaning.
As per above, just clean the socket the best you can
and wait for the chip. I should get that out in the next
couple days. Monday at the latest. Thanks.
