Which isn't true, actually.  Hold down the soft power switch for a few
seconds and the Mac turns off.  In addition, most Macs have had hard
reset switches, either installable or built in.  Those that didn't
implemented reset in the ADB processor, which nearly always worked.

Unfortunately, DOS/Windows have dragged the world down to their level
on this point.
