I just got a cpomplete IIGS system off eBay that came with an
Imagewriter II. Everything works great except the printer. I get a
flashing red error light that the manual says is either a "cover off"

My guess is that you lost the magnet inside the right low corner of
your cover. Look inside whther you find it somewhere in the bowels of
your printer. If not, get one and glue to the receptacle at the
right low corner of the cover.
