When I was using dot matrix printers, I think I often found that when
it was time to connect up more paper, I'd often waste some until I got
it adjusted right. A combination of not having the pile of paper properly
in line with the tractor feed, and sometimes not having the tractor
feed "punches" not set apart exactly as needed. It gets even worse
when I brought home odd printers from the garbage, and had to fiddle
around before I could even figure out how the paper was supposed to be
fed.
