Cannot start Powerbook with Airport extreme card installed

Whenever I plug an air port extreme card into my Powerbook G4, I cannot
start the computer. It will start to boot up and after awhile I will see a
message stating that I must restart the computer (it never gets done booting
up). If I restart I once again get the same message. If I remove the air
card everything is fine.

While I would think that either the card or the computer is defective, I
just wonder if anyone else has ever experienced this and has a solution?
