Try MDC (Multi-Disk Catalog), a free program that comes with CiderPress. It
will scan hundreds of disk images in a few seconds. Here's a sample of

The software is available from http://www.faddensoft.com/ciderpress/ . I've
used it on my personal collection as well as a tarball of the asimov
archive. It helps *immensely* when you're searching for that long-buried
program or data file.
