You could say that about any older computer, but I would beg to
differ.  I was "stuck" with an IIe around the time the Pentium MMX
was introduced.  (Stuck because my well equipped 486 has finally
broken down beyond repair.)  Yet I noticed something, I was actually
more productive on that IIe than the old Intel.  The reasons were
simple: the computer was being used to write papers for university,
and the IIe provided fewer distractions.  This is a sentiment I
have seen expressed by others.

Better yet, I was having more fun with computers than I had in years
because I could play with the machine in a meaningful way.  Any
program I could write for a Mac or Wintel would pale when compared
to the work of others, since I'm simply not sophisticated enough
to attach a fancy user interface to my work.  This isn't an issue
on an Apple II.

If productivity and fun are not practical reasons to use a computer,
then I don't know what would be!  Whether other people have more
self disipline and better proagramming skills than I is a moot
point.
