: Yeah, like copper wire said, there's already a group for that.

Mr. Wire also noticed that I mentioned knowing about
the other NG, and that I could not view it. I can't even
get to it through Google. I will eventually get around
to trying other newsreaders, but for now, I don't really
need to get to the binaries.

: I'm working on putting up a Telnet BBS for the Apple II folks.
: So far, I've got the server running, allowing new users to
: sign up (with automatic 1-way e-mail verification). I am
: working on multi-user chat and message boards now. After that,
: I'll be adding the file transfer area.

When you get it up and running, I'll get my IIgs back on
my serial STerm connection and check it out. That's a great
way to use an Apple II. Telnet BBS's are basically the same
as an ASCII dial-up BBS only you don't need to, uh, dial-up.

: It happens that I am doing this for "another" project, too,
: so I've got more than just hobby-motivation behind it now.
:
: Anyhow, once it's up and running I will have a hefty file area
: for the 8-bit Apple II, along with a pretty massive retro PC
: shareware/freeware/abandonware area.

Will we have upload-ability as well?

: Hope to have it ready for people to play with in early January.
: I think it would be a blast to get some of you funnier folks in
: chat and having fun. Who knows, maybe we can host a weekly
Apple II
: "user group" type chat!

I'll be ready too. ;-)

: I still don't have a name for the BBS yet. I'm writing it in
Visual
: Basic .NET, so was thinking "AppleNET BBS". Not sure if that's
a (C)
: or (R) or (TM) word tho'. That's what I'm calling the BBS
software
: right now, anyhow. Maybe "Apple II Forever BBS"? I keep
coming back
: to that one... Back in the mid 80's, I ran a BBS called "Rebel
: Hideout". My best friend at the time got a IIgs and used his
old file://e
: for a BBS.. his handle was "Myers" and he called his BBS
"Myers'
: Closet Castle" because his file://e was plugged in and sitting
in his
: closet. heh.. and he had a 9600 baud modem about a month after
they
: were introduced... while I was still at 1200. oh well!

Call it Morse Code BBS. ;-)
