They're networking cards for Digicard networks. They required an SRC (system
resource controller?) server and a Digicard network card for each client.
Macs and IIgs could use their onboard serial ports with the right software.
They appear to have been popular in schools. They seem to have served the
same purpose as localtalk networks but without the Mac.
I'd point you to the website of the manufacturer but it seems to have gone
down in the past year. :(
