That is correct. They have 4 Mhz CPUs in them
now but are held back to 2.8 Mhz for purposes
of keeping the timing for video and disk access
correct. Accelerators only speed up main services
such as ram access and math functions, etc.......
It's my understanding that at the time the //gs was being developed, 3
mhz was the fastest the 65816 could do. By the time production was
started, 4 mhz was the standard.
Though I don't suppose an extra million cycles would have made a LOT of
difference....
