Right now everything is tentative, based on the
amount of knowledge I have of hardware and software.
However, I am close to a hardware design for IDE
internal controller for IIc. It should work in all
models of the IIc, but the IIc+ could raise a large
problem while modding the firmware. A new ROM will
be needed possibly and I must take care not to be
sucked into a custody battle with Apple Corp.
The reason for the internal system is that going thru
an external port will create a slowdown of transfers.
The SmartPort device of which you speak is the Chinook
hard drive, which was SCSI and requires much more
logic than I intend to use. Mine is hopefully going
to be a CF card design allowing a much smaller size
giving me room to install it easily into the CPU
socket. I would love to add an accelerator to the
card also, but then the size will be increased and
make it more difficult to position it into the case.
If all goes well, I should have some preliminary
info on my site sometime after the 1st of the year.
The IIc is a bear to work with, but I feel that I,
and another who is working with me, can pull this
off. I've had lots of requests for a device like this
and lots more are acquiring IIc's lately making it a
worthwhile venture. I'll keep you all informed of my
progress as it becomes available. Thanks.
