Apple licensed AppleWorks to Quality Computers, and programmers Randy Brandt
and Dan Verkade wrote the updates to AppleWorks 4 (last version was v4.3) and
AppleWorks 5 (last version was 5.1). Only some of the Beagle Bros products were
incorporated. Other Beagls Bros applications were updated to work alongside the
new versions of AppleWorks.
After the license ended, control reverted to Apple. We had some discussion with
the programmers to try to license it for development of an AppleWorks 6.0.
Although we could have done an upadate without Apple (using patches),
unfortunately, at the same time, the appearance of an illegal upload of
AppleWorks on the web ended any hope of that.
