Yes, the procedure laid down back in the day
does work, but GoldWave's latest version can,
in fact, convert the MP3 to the proper WAV
stats that will play on the IIgs, provided
that the IIgs has enough memory and storage
space to accomodate it. Get the FAQ on doing
this conversion and use the tech. settings
in the FAQ to make GoldWave do the conversion.
Then transfer the WAV to the IIgs, but remember
also that the filetype and auxtype are important.
The WAVs will play under SynthLab or any of the
other many programs available for the GS.
