Thanks for the compliment.  I never intended for it to be 100% the
same.  After all, the GS can never pump out 60fps, so, even if the
control were duplicated perfectly, the "feel" would be different.

The game I posted is at a dead end development-wise, but I've
developed a stand alone game engine from it which can be obtained at
http://iigs.dreamhost.com/gte/gte.html.  If you download the Demo.SHK
file at the very bottom, it contains a bare-bones "World 1-1" written
on top of the new graphics engine.  I've spent quite a bit of time
optimizing the code as best I could, so if anyone wants to compare how
fast the two demos feel relative to each other, speak up!!

If people are interested enough, I've got a half-finished level editor
that I might be inspired to finish and let people build their own
levels.  If anyone wants to volunteer to spend the time replicating
the original levels from SMB, I'll commit to finishing up the editor
for everyone's use and complete the game logic myself, and we can, as
a community, release a complete game.
