Super Serial Cards are cheap and abundant--less than $20 including
postage--so that is still your best bet.
And if you think that transferring images at 19200 baud is a pain,
wait until you find out about the special hardware you'll need to
attach an Apple drive to a PC. ;-) Writing Apple II disks on a
PC is not possible without unusual hardware and software which
is much harder to find and use than ADT.
Unless you're a glutton for punishment, just get a serial card and
use ADT.
Or, if you happen to have (or can easily get) a 3.5" disk drive
and controller for your Apple II and an older Mac (pre-PowerPC
versions are also cheap and abundant), you can use the Mac
with System 7.x (x>0) to move files using 3.5" diskettes.
