Apple might well have left telnetd out because the telnet protocol is
horribly insecure...while you might only use it to log in from behind your
firewall, some other luser might think having telnet access to his Mac from
anywhere is great.  (He'd only think it was great until someone 0wn3d his
dumb ass.)

As for my little problem...between SharePoints and NetInfo Manager, my GS is
now talking to my G3.  As others have noted, it might as well be read-only
access, though...I get an error when I send a file to the G3, and it appears
that the filetype and auxtype aren't preserved.  At least netatalk under
Linux still works...looks like that's what I'll keep using to move files
between my IIGS and my other machines.  (Still need to try again with the
workstation card in my IIe...maybe I'll do that after I have something else
running my beer fridge. :-) )
