VERIFY is fine in ProDOS, in ProDOS I'm pretty sure all it does is to tell
you a file exists and give you a FILE NOT FOUND if it doesn't.  But under
DOS 3.3, VERIFY will actually 'walk' the file and generate checksums,
which can be a lengthy process if it is a big file.

Hence I always used UNLOCK.  8-)

Personally, I liked programming for text files better in DOS 3.3 than in
ProDOS, for one reason in particular:  

DOS 3.3 has MON CIO
ProDOS does not.
