GS + Apple 3.5 non-functional
I'm fortunate enough to have a ROM 01 GS, a couple of 5.25s and 3.5s.
Worked great after getting some disk images transfered with the help of a
vintage Mac.
I unhooked this thing to work on something else and didn't get back to it
for a few months. When I set it back up neither of the 3.5" drives would
boot a disk. The 5.25" drives work fine.
I've tried both 3.5" drives individually and all that comes up when using
a known working floppy is the "Check startup device" error. I've also
disassembled one to test the drive cable (even though I know the odds of
both drives dying at the same time is quite low) and it tested fine from
the drive through to the other side of the DB19 connector on the board.
The drive light comes on for about a half of a second and goes out
immediately after power on. PR#5 will cause a hang of a few seconds and
then a "Check startup device" error.
Anyone have any ideas? Is it a dud board? Anyone in the Halifax Nova
Scotia area with a working smartport willing to double check some 3.5"
drives?
Regards,
Donald Bailey
