It's the latest Microsoft worm to make the rounds, and this one's more of a
nuisance than usual...previous worms just tried to compromise webservers,
but this one is clogging people's inboxes like nobody's business. It's bad
enough on broadband, but at ~140K each, it must really suck to be on dialup
right now.

If you're using POP3 to retrieve mail from your ISP, you might look into
Mailfilter:

http://mailfilter.sourceforge.net/

It logs into the server, scans subject lines, and deletes unwanted mail
without downloading it.

If you're like me, though, you run your own mail server. I threw together
some scripts last night/this morning that hook into qmail to bounce messages
based on originating IP address or subject. The way it's set up, though,
these msssages are still chewing up bandwidth. At least it keeps my inbox
(my spambox, more accurately) a little cleaner until I can figure out
something that cuts off virus mail in midstream...that would most likely
require a patch to qmail.
