sound volume on IIe

Last night I couldn't sleep so I turned on my IIe to play Karateka.
Only, in the night's silence the beeper sound really was too loud!
I don't want to wake up anybody so I was wondering if it would be
possible to add a volume control knob to it. Any hints?
