I was going to say that I just snagged one of those drives on eBay,
but it isn't here yet. I was hoping to see if I can write 400k disks on
my IIgs. Do you need to have special disks for this?, or will it write
an 800k disk to 400k?

I tried out some 400k drives with a UDC card. It worked well enough.
After being formatted 400k, any Mac or Apple II drive that would
read 800k disks would read and write to the 400k disks.

Often the back side of 400k disks is damaged so it wasn't considered
a good idea to reuse 400k disks in 800k drives.

Last year I wanted to use an external 400k drive with a 512 Mac and
found the grease in all my 400k drives had congealed. Had to clean
and relube all of them
