Appleworks problems

I tried to boot Appleworks yesterday to look at some old files and had two
problems:
- First, the program doesn't like the current date as read from the GS clock
card, and would not proceed until I changed the year to 1999 (pre-2000)
- Second, the program got a little further to the point where it started
loading the program into the ram card, and then it hung.
Both problems were entirely repeatable - is there a patch available for
these issues?
