Nearly all color television sets have an automatic degaussing circuit, the
purpose of which, is to demagnetize the picture tube (CRT).  If the picture
tube becomes magnetized, it will result in convergence problems.  Black and
white TV's don't have a degausser as there is no need to worry about
convergence with a single electron gun.

BTW, most color monitors have a degausser also.
