So grad students are nothing but free slave labour?   <g>
 
Anyway, decoding punched cards by hand have some disadvantages:
 
1. It's slow and tedious --- ok, that's a problem for your slaves though..
 
2. It's error prone.  You'll actually have to read it twice and then
compare the two readings; if they mismatch you need to do a third reading
to determine which one was right (or if both were in error....).
