Hey, guys!
I have a friend that came across two diskettes that have data he'd like to
convert to Windows/Notepad format. All the data was created using AppleWorks
1.0.
Reading on the web, AppleWriter 1.x stored the files at binary files, which
is accurate with what I have (AppleWriter 2.0 started storing files as text
files). Fortunately, one of the disks has AppleWriter 1.0 on it, and I'm
able to run the program and read the files.
I've already converted the data disks to .DSK format, and I'm able to read
the disk images under Windows in CiderPress. When I view any of the "TEXT."
files (AppleWriter 1.x appended TEXT. to the beginning of each filename), I
see garbage (I'm assuming the cause is by the text not being in the same
ASCII range that Windows normally use).
Are there any processes I could use to convert these binary files to text
files? I read that AppleWriter 2.0 could possibly convert them, but I don't
have a copy of version 2.0.
Thanks!
