I've thought about adding some serial port handling, though mostly with an
eye toward simplifying ADT transfers.

What you describe would be useful for quick transfers of a few files, but
for anything more I think you'd want to stuff it into a ShrinkIt archive,
which takes care of the file type preservation issues for you and also
reduces the amount of data that needs to be transferred.

Creating a separate application to do this should be straightforward.
If the file attribute preservation stuff defined for NuLib2 (www.nulib.com)
were used to store the files under Windows, the file types would be
preserved, and the files could be transferred in and out of ShrinkIt
archives using either CiderPress or NuLib2. It's perfectly safe to move
the files through any filesystem that supports long filenames (for ProDOS,
15 characters for the name plus up to 8 for the preservation string).
