I've told this story before.
About 1995 or so, I arrived at a garage sale where someone was popping
the top of what was clearly an Apple computer. For some reason, he
turns to me and says "no SIMMs". I'd gotten closer, and could see that
it was labelled a IIGS. "It's not a Mac....", says I. He was still stuck
on the idea that it was a Mac, and nothing I could say would change his
mind. He'd already bought it, for $35. Oddly enough, a few days later, I
bumped into him, and by then he'd discovered it wasn't a Mac.
At first glance, and if you don't know about it, the IIGS does appear
to be a Mac. Especially when they did have all those Macs that had II
in the model number.
Of course, another time I was at a Rotary Club garage sale, and spotted
a Radio Shack Color Computer that I was interested in if the price was right.
But someone was looking over at it, talking to one of the sellers. From
the motions, it was clear they were wondering about connecting that IBM
type keyboard sitting next to it to the CoCo.
