Mac OS 8.1 can still partition ProDOS as well, I suspect Mac OS up through
9.2.2 (the last non Mac OS X version) would still have that capability as
well. Perhaps even Mac OS X, although I've never run it so I don't know.

I have a non-Apple branded hard drive (Lacie 4GB SCSI external) which I
managed to partition with ProDOS, but then again, I chose to ignore
Lacie's bundled Silverlining software to format the hard drive and instead
just used what was built into Mac OS 8.1). Been using it like that since
1998 with no problems.
