You could do a lot worse that Bernie ][ the Rescue on a Mac.  It has 
been AppleWorks compatible since its beta "Warp" days.  I have a rather 
complex set of macros/scripts that involve poking locations in the Apple 
]['s softswitch memory amoung other bits which have nothing directly to 
do with AppleWorks itself.  I was blown away the first time I tried them 
to find that they work flawlessly under Bernie.
