Usually, the packaging on a CF Card will tell you the approximate number of
writes you can do.  Usually, it's around a million.  Anyway, reading from a
CF card does not harm the CF card at all, and does not count toward the
number of writes the card can take.  Only writing to the card brings it
closer to the end of its life-cycle.

I am running an Apple IIe from a CF card, keep all my files on floppies, so
I rarely write to the CF.  I think it'll work fine for a very long time like
this.
