I'm curious as to why it is such a surprise that a SCSI device
would work on a SCSI interface card. There is no reason that
it shouldn't is there?

  From the experiences I have had with SCSI on Macs, Apple 2s, and
PCs, I'd say "SCSI VooDoo" has meaning. SCSI is a spec to which
vendors conform to by varying degrees - they tweak and twist to fit
their needs.
  For example, aren't CMS SCSI cards proprietrary? Or,  term power -
that can get confusing. Or, on the PC, I have a SCSI scanner, I plug
in something after the scanner - doesn't work. Or, on the Mac, my HP
scanner works fine, but it screws up the SyQuest drives (known issue).
or, when I went shopping for a SCSI card on the PC, SyQuest had a list
of approved vendors -- I assume that some cards worked better than
others.
