Get a regular PC mouse and remove everything inside except for the
LED/phototransistor assemblies. Use a 74LS14 to raise the
phototransistor's outputs to TTL level (Howeyer, some Mac/IIe/IIc mice
did use the open-collector signals directly, without any buffering).
Or find a Serial-to-XY/IQ-Adapter. These have been sold for Amiga
machines. I have one that calles itself "Topolino", a small dongle with
a MAX232 and a PIC inside.
Amiga mice have a different pinout so you have to rewire the converter's
Amiga side.
