SlotScan is a Freeware program by Robert S. Claney that seems to do
what you want, and can, from what the docs indicate, determine the
installed memory from Apple II up to Apple IIgs.  It also analyzes all
the slots and tells what is in each one.  And it does other stuff,
too.  Works under ProDos and DOS 3.3, and only requires 16K to run. 
You would have to modify the program for your purposes.  It's an
excellent utility, and you should be able to find it somewhere on the
web.  If you can't find it, post that info here, and I'll get back to
you.  My sneakemail address bounces all mail.........I hate
spammmmm........
