I think the problem that people are having responding to your question is...
why the PC transporter (if that is what you mean by PCT utility)? The
CrossWorks program comes with a multi-purpose cable for Apple-to-PC, which
makes the transfer and the conversion in one step. You should not have a
problem transferring AppleWorks 2.1 - 3.1 - 5.1 files using this cable, as long
as they do not use any of the AW 5.1-only functions, such as @today, @alert,
etc.
Also, a basic rule is that CrossWorks works better when run under straight
MS-DOS, not in a MS-DOS window of Windows. Shut down and reboot in MS-DOS mode,
then run cw.
If you would like for me to try to do the conversion for you, please pack the
AppleWorks file in .BXY format using shrinkit on the Apple II, transfer the
.BXY to the PC using no conversion process at all, and upload the .BXY file
with no packaging at all to the e-mail address appleworks51 at aol dot com
Due to spam, the e-mail address A2MG filters out yahoo mail and many others. I
hope this helps.
