Re: Building the Modern Apple IIGS

Wow, the last time I heard of a project of building a new GS was after
the second day of the Apple Expo West back in '93. A bunch of
attendees went over to James Brooks house, played SNES games,
discussed a new GS, with diagrams drawn on the back of napkins. It was
a fun seeing all the creative excitement of the moment, but it lost
momentum afterwards. Probably due to the lack of funds.

As for alternative methods of modification, I've long been considering
and looking for ways to have an internal hard drive/high density
floppy drive unit integrated in the GS case. The concept I have is to
cut the front off of an AE Vulcan power supply and insert both inside
and cut a slot on the front case of the GS for the floppy disk.

The floppy would either be a SCSI based LS-120 Superdisk drive, TEAC
SCSI floppy drive, or Apple HD floppy drive, with internal cabling to
a RamFAST Rev. D, or Apple High Speed SCSI

The hard drive will probably be an IDE based 1/2 height drive or a
notebook drive, or maybe a 1/2 height SCSI drive.
