Everyone is correct in their information, I do not dispute that,
however, it does not answer the initial question.

You can't write on the odd tracks and get a 280k disk with
the firmware as it is, no, but you could in effect force all the
phases to stop on all their locations with software. Now, as
was stated in previous posts, there would be a problem with
written data bleeding over onto the "half-tracks" as the head
as I am told in many FAQ's on Apple drives, is larger than
it could have been for one reason or another. I have in fact
recently attempted to write on 0-3 stopping on all phase
marks, resulting in data becoming unreadable. It may be
possible to stop on every 3rd phase and the resulting disk
would be 210k, I haven't tried this, but feel free to do so,
anyone who may be interested. I may try it when I get some
more free time, but for now, I really don't care. I have about
15 disks of 5.25 size of mine, and 10 that I bought with
games on them and that's about all I'm going to probably have.
Most of what I have now is on 3.5" 800k disks and much of
it is now on 1.44 MS-DOS disks, then installed onto hard
drive and zip drive. I am also in the process of compiling
a CD, and if anyone has anything in particular they'd like
on it. Please let me know and better yet, email me a copy,
or send a disk to me. All the manuals I can find and utils
plus some disk images for emu's will be added. It might
be weeks, months, even a year until I get it done, but it
will be done. Anyway, this is getting rather long, so I will
sign out for now, and I hope someone does write a util
to write on every 3rd track, I think that would be kool.
Thanks for your time,
