The developers as individuals may or may not have been happy about it;
I've never seen any public statements from them stating their views.
But it seems unlikely that Xerox as a corporation (as represented by
their board of directors and investors) was happy about how things turned
out. Xerox eventually sued Apple for copyright infringement, though the
case was thrown out.
