Thought I replied to this. (That's what I get for trusting IE and YaHoo
with newsgroups. Back on Netscape.)
The .dmg file seems to a kind of diskcopy file. Here is some info from

That is a disk image, when mounted properly, it will be treated just like a
hard drive by your system. Drag and drop the .dmg file onto Disk Copy, a
utility inside the Applications/Utilities directory. That should mount the
file. Then copy the contents of the disk image to your hard drive, and you
should be all set!
