Re: GS and Toshiba CD-ROM XM-520?

I just recently picked up a nice little external SCSI CD-ROM drive, a
Toshiba XM-520. Will this work on a GS? My GS is a ROM 3 with 8MB of
RAM and a RAMFast SCSI card and running GSOS 6.somethingorother.

What do I need to do to get her to recognize the CD-ROM drive?

Also (now that I've posted an Apple II related question, I'm going to
tack on a Mac-related one here since I'm not currently subscribed to
any Mac newsgroups...)

I have been trying to test this Toshiba CD-ROM on a Performa 405
before trying it out on the GS. When I run SCSI Probe, the drive is
detected with a SCSI ID of 6. However, I can't seem to get System 7.5
to mount the drive. I also tried it on a Mac IIVX. There, it was
also detected at ID 6, whilst the internal CD-ROM drive was detected
as SCSI ID 3. The internal mounts fine, but like on the Performa, I
am unable to get the external to mount. At least, I'm assuming it is
unmounted, as Apple Audio CD Player only shows SCSI ID 3 as available.

Any hints on how to get this drive to work?

Thanks.

I've used a couple of Toshiba drives with my Ramfast SCSI cards, an
XM3501 and a XM6401. In both cases the Ramfast recognized the drives
and as soon as I inserted a CD, mounted it. Works on my ramfast
equipped IIe too.

FWBs CD-ROM toolkit for the Mac likely supports it. If it does work,
that is. I've seen a few CD drives that while recognized by the Mac or ramfast utilities wouldn't ever mount a CD. Have you actually seen
the drive reading a CD?
