I'm assuming you get the "UNABLE TO LOAD PRODOS" message. Most macs made
after 1995 have a newer (cheaper) disk drive that usually cannot make
bootable ProDOS disks, even though the computer says the image was written
successfully. Assuming you got the image directly from Apple's site, you'll
have to find an older mac to make the disk with. I bought a mac lc that
works nicely for that taks. Or if you poke around the web and newsgroup
you'll find people who'll make you copies for a few bucks. Also, I recommend
you get another 3.5" drive because system 6 barely fits on a 800k disk. And
make sure you're using a double density diskette. These are older than the
disks you buy at any office store. You can tell the difference between a
high density disk and a double density disks by the absence of a square hole
in the upper left corner of a double density disk. If you are in a pinch,
applying a piece of tape over the hole on a high density disk and then
reformatting it as a double density disk should work. Good luck and feel
free to respond with any questions.
