It was not uncommon, I think, for Commodore machines to be thought of
as very distinctly home machines with no hope of greater aspirations at
the time. It wasn't universal, and I don't know that it was really
well-founded, but it was a perceived reality at least in some circles.
Commodore was a poster child for ineffectual or downright absent
marketing.
