Yes, they produced kits to upgrade a IIe to IIgs. The kit consisted of a new bottom pan, IIgs motherboard and IIgs emblem to replace the IIe on the cover. The IIe parts used were the power supply, keyboard and plastic case. I believe the dealers kept the IIe motherboard. The upgrades weren't too popular because of the price. You could easily sell the IIe for more than the difference between the upgrade price and a new IIgs with ADB keyboard and mouse. The upgrade also had some cons. Some cards wouldn't fit in the smaller space and the IIe power supply had a lower output than the IIgs one. Also I understand there were some programs that didn't like the IIe keyboard.

A lot of IIc owners were unhappy that they weren't offered an upgrade even though there isn't a single part in a IIc that you could use with a IIgs.
