I'm sure that someone with more knowledge will reply soon, but for now...
My understanding is that the Mockingboard, like the Phasor, uses a 6522
to interface to two sound chips (the Phasor uses two 6522s to interface
to four sound chips, but you get the point.)
I'm not sure what the sound chip is (AY8910 sounds right but I don't
feel like walking the 30 feet to my Phasor card to check it out.)
I have a book somewhere that has plans for making your own card using
the 6522 to interface to a sound chip that I can't find for sale
anywhere (probably the AY8910....)
