Your best bet is to buy a used working Deskjet that has serial port.  I 
used a Deskjet+ years ago connected to serial port and using Harmonie 
software/driver.

Newer DeskJet models do not have serial port, only parallel.
The original DeskJet, DJ plus, DJ 500, DJ 500C and DJ 550C have
both parallel and serial ports, DJ 510, DJ 520, DJ 560C as well
as DJ 310 have parallel only.
