HD spins & dies

hi folks

my wife's old quadra seems to have died - yeah yeah i know this is A2 - 
but this is best place to find someone who may know tricks to spin up 
semi-dead SCSI drives.

for what its worth - I put drive in expernal box & connected to another 
Mac - After HD speed tools & HD tool kit are the only things that could 
even see *something* was connected but they show 0 (zero) mb device & 
"device not ready"

Any thoughts?
