Slowly but surely I am getting there with my own nasty little network.
The plan is simple enough:
OS-X 10.2 <<=ethernet=>>LC-III MacOS 7.6<-LocalTalk->IIgs GS/OS 6.0.1
Getting the GS and the LC-III to talk to one another is dead easy; I had
that working last night, even though the LC-III still doesn't have a
complete copy of the OS loaded yet.
Getting the LC-III and the OS-X machine to talk to each other seems to be
more difficult, from what I have been reading, and I guess that even
though I plan to install the Appletalk Bridge on the LC-III, I probably
can't use the OS-X machine as a file server for the IIgs.
But that isn't a big deal. If I can get OS-X to run as a client to the
LC-III, then I can share files both ways. Great.
What I really want to do goes a bit beyond file sharing.
What I want to do is to send a signal from the IIgs that will trigger some
kind of event on the OS-X machine. Logging in to the CLI would be ideal,
but that isn't strictly necessary...merely triggering an AppleScript would
be more than enough for my purposes. The idea is to use a IIgs as a
remote control for multimedia apps on the OS-X box.
Any suggestions?
