I bought an Apple IIc+ on eBay for $10 a few years back and its
internal 3.5" drive was bad (it was offered as-is).  I just replaced
it with a 3.5" drive from an old IIgs and it works great!  It was the
standard Apple 3.5 800k drive (not a mac one and not the Unidisk 3.5.)

It was pretty easy to take apart both the IIc+ and the external 3.5"
drive and swap the drive hardware.  I have found those old 3.5" floppy
drives at Goodwill-like stores for $1 a piece before.
